I concur.
I myself am not a politician, but, I suppose a better solution would be deflation.
We'd have to print less money, pennies have a purpose again, it might ease the poverty epidemic, etc.
I don't know, I'm not in the stock market.

It's easy for them to do it when they don't really have to foot the bill.

And it's easy for them to cut benefits to people who have nothing while at the same time paying subsidies to multi-billion dollar companies.  Why, I ask you, are there charities asking for money to help our veterans?  Why isn't the government helping our heroes?  Because, perhaps, they didn't become cannon fodder like real heroes should and linger on obtrusively using up government funds?  Don't put it past them, dearie.  These are the same people who think they are a persecuted minority who are being treated like the Jews in Nazi Germany, our 1% of the wealthy holding 1/2 the world's wealth.  Tom Perkins says it's like Kristallnacht for him.  I'm waiting for one of them to say, "Let 'em eat cake!"  Let 'em eat cake?  Ahh, but no icing.  No icing!

They probably did on the cake part. It's cheap to feed people with.

That's what Marie Antoinette said when the people of France were starving.  She heard they had no bread, and that was her response.  Their response?  "Off with her head!"

It removed the aristocracy and brought in the French Revolution, democracy, freedom, economic equity and, yes, it fed a lot of people.

...I'm baffled as to why this poster is supposed to come off as negative.  Given a situation in which somebody is making a decision for everybody, do you want the person with the record of making decisions which turned out okay, or the person with the record of making decisions which turned out poorly?

I think wealthy people have no idea of the living conditions of the poor.  The decisions they are making about the character of those in need are based on stereotypes of lazy, baby-popping unwed mothers and drug-sucking dads, all black.  Facts are that the majority of people receiving SNAP, social security and Food Stamps unable to work as they are retired, disabled or minors, and white, and those on unemployment are not there because they want to be, but because they HAD a job and have it no more, are looking for one and can't find one.  The wealthiest one percent of this country are going to continue on in this cavalier manner until they, like Marie Antoinette, say something like, "Let them eat cake!" or "We're being persecuted like the Jews in WWII!", and then, well, you know what happened.

Reread what you just wrote, and ask yourself whether your opinion of your political opponents is conducive to changing anything.

As in?  Changing our leadership from the PAC-driven, elitist obstructionists currently in office to people who will work towards the common good?  Sure. I don't have to reread what I wrote.  I've seen it in action year after year as I work with the poor, grew up poor and am related to the poor.  I was lucky enough to get decent jobs, marry a hardworking man and go to college.  But I don't forget where I came from.  But I talk to people all the time who are quite the opposite of poor as well, and they truly have no idea what it's like to have to go out every single day and fish so you and your ten year old daughter have something to eat.  Fish.  Every meal, every day.  They don't understand what it's like to have to scrape your ex-husband's brains off the walls and ceiling so you can move into his house with his two daughters.  There are no "people" to do that for them.  They can't conceive of an elderly person on social security and medicare who is spending his more than his monthly allotment on rent, medicine, doctor visits and gas to the doctor's office, then "borrows" money from his relatives for food.  He has no electricity, he can't afford it.  He has no plumbing, he walks the nearby gas station to use the restroom and clean up.

No, I think I'll stick with what I wrote.  They're not in touch at all.

Changing our leadership from the PAC-driven, elitist obstructionists currently in office to people who will work towards the common good

- Whose common good?

I talk to people all the time who are quite the opposite of poor as well, and they truly have no idea what it's like to have to go out every single day and fish so you and your ten year old daughter have something to eat.  Fish.  Every meal, every day.

- Try living on nothing but corn you've raised yourself because nothing else came in for months on end.  Everybody's experiences are different; arguing that somebody's perspective is invalid because they haven't experienced some specific thing formative to one person's life is... well, I should hope I shouldn't have to tell you how stupid that sounds as an argument.

They don't understand what it's like to have to scrape your ex-husband's brains off the walls and ceiling so you can move into his house with his two daughters.

- Because this is definitely what life is like for most poor people.

- They can't?  They're so stupid, on account of never scraping brains or fishing for their meals, that they cannot even imagine this scenario?

No, I think I'll stick with what I wrote.  They're not in touch at all.

- Clearly you're not in fucking touch with the people you claim aren't in touch.

You may not swear at me and you may not call me stupid.  Once again, arguments degenerate into name calling when logic fails.

*Raises eyebrows* May not?

But I didn't call you stupid.  I said your argument was stupid.  There's a difference.  (Technically, I didn't even do that.)

It is not the words that are important, but the meaning those words convey.  And your words about your political opponents carry far more hostility than the manner by which I called you on that same hostility.  Your deviation, and this argument, is absolutely nothing -but- name-calling in its purest form, ad-hominem - the use of a label to justify disregarding any arguments or opinions another person, or in this case group of people, present or hold.
